 AC MACHINE

AC Machine is classified into two  :

1. Synchronous AC Machine   (Synchronous Motor, Synchronous Generator)
2. Induction AC Machine     (Induction Motor, Induction Generator)

As we know  machine is of two types 

Motor- It converts Electrical Energy into Mechanical energy.

Generator-It converts  Mechanical Energy into Electrical energy.

Synchronous Machine:- 

The machine  that  operates on AC supply and  generates AC e.m.f. at synchronous speed or constant speed is known as Synchronous Machine (generator,motor). it is also known as Alternator.

Synchronous motor are widely use in practice.

Synchronous motor rotates at synchronous speed.

Synchronous motor is works on the principle of  Magnetic Locking.

 

Application of Synchronous machine: 

often used in belt driven reciprocating compressors,fans & blowers, vacuum pumps,pulp grinders,textile mills,rolling mills,cement mills.

Induction Machine:-

The machine  that  operates on AC supply is known as AC Machine ( Generator, Motor).

Induction motor are very popularly uses in practice. 

Induction motor is works on the principle of Electromagnetic Induction.  

Induction motor never rotates at synchronous speed.

At sub-synchronous speed,the induction motor rotates due to which it is also known as Asynchronous motor.

Application of Induction Machine: 

 Induction motor is mostly used in water pumps,drilling machine,grinders,lifts,hoists,elevators,compressors.
