These are the protective devices used in electrical circuit:-
•Fuse:- A fuse is an electrical safety device that provide overcurrent protection of an electrical circuit. Its essential component is a metal wire or strip that melts when over current flows through it.
•Circuit Breaker:- An electrical circuit breaker is a switching device which can be operated manually and automatically for controlling and protecting an electrical power system from the damage caused by the over voltage, over load or short circuit. It interrupt the over current flow after a fault is detected.
•Poly Switch:- It is resettable fuse or polymeric +ve temperature coefficient device that is used to protect against overcurrent faults in electronic circuits. The device is also known as a multifuse or polyfuse or polyswitch.
•RCCB:- It’s stands for Residual Current Circuit Breaker, it is also known as ground fault circuit interrupter device that quickly breaks an electrical circuit to prevent from over current or voltage due an ongoing electric shock.
•Metal Oxide Varistor:- Like the fuse or circuit breaker that provide over-current protection to the circuit or devices, the varistor also provides over-voltage protection to the circuit or device.
•Inrush Current Limiter:- Inrush current limiter is a component that used to limit sudden increase in current to avoid gradual damage to the device or circuit by blowing fuses or tripping circuit breakers.
•Gas Discharge Tube:- It protect the sensitive equipment from large disturbance in voltage i.e. Transient voltage.
•Lighting Arrester:-It the major component of power system as it is use to protect the insulators and conductors of power system from lightning surge and thundering.
